Yoel Romero made a huge statement with his flying knee finish over former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at UFC 205 over the weekend.
The “Soldier of God” is looking to get a chance against UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and UFC President Dana White has already stated that the fight makes sense.
Before going into the bout against Weidman in New York’s Madison Square Garden, Romero set some time aside from his busy schedule to talk with BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor and said that all his plans are out of his own hands.
“I am going with the plan that God has in place,” Romero said to Taylor. “All I know is that God has a plan that is in place for what is going to happen on Saturday night. But, I told God if you want me to go to New York, then it is you that has to go before me. Because you’re not going to embarrass your son. Because you are going to have your son be victorious. That’s why I am here. Because I know that God will give me this victory. I don’t know what area is the one that is going to make it happen. Whether it is jiu-jitsu, wrestling, kickboxing, Muay Thai, I don’t know. The only thing I do know is that victory will be mine, because God is on my side.”
Seems like Romero’s faith took him in the right direction, finishing Weidman in the third round getting him praise from many.
One man who Romero seems to get along with is NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal. Romero recently replied to a tweet from a fan of this classic photo standing next to the 7′ 1″ legend.
“This is my friend @SHAQ good man,” Romero tweeted about the photo.
