The historic UFC 205 event takes place on November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The monumental card will feature three UFC championship bouts.
A women’s strawweight title fight will take place between two undefeated Polish fighters as champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk looks to defend her title for the fourth consecutive time against fellow undefeated Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Headlining the event, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor looks to make history by becoming the first UFC fighter to ever hold two UFC division’s championship title simultaneously as he challenges UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for his lightweight strap. In the co-main event, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will also try to make his dream of becoming a UFC champion come true when he takes on the powerful UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley.
Thompson set aside some time to join BJPenn.com radio host “Kinch” to talk about his fight against Woodley and also touched upon the main event matchup between McGregor and Alvarez.
“Conor McGregor is definitely a lifelong, true martial artist. He does have a karate style,” Thompson said in reference to “Kinch” asking about the fighting style of “The Notorious.” “His stance, his sideway stance is very awkward and he can nail you with his feet and his hands at any angle. So yeah man I see that and of course, he trains in a karate style with Gunnar Nelson. If you’ve ever watched him, man that guy has got some great blitzes, karate style as well and it’s such a different style. People aren’t used to that.”
As far as who Thompson sees winning the UFC lightweight title fight between Alvarez and McGregor, “Wonderboy” couldn’t quite put a definitive pick down.
“Those guys are at the top of the game for a reason. Very difficult to pick somebody like that. I hate doing that just because you never know who is gonna win. I mean, Eddie Alvarez got a great gas tank, he’s strong, big. He walks around at like 180.
“And, Conor McGregor man, he’s crafty. He touches you with that left hand, he’s gonna put you out. And, he’s faced excellent wrestlers before,” Thompson stated.
“When you got two guys out there at that level, you never know who is gonna win,” Thompson said of his prediction. “It’s a toss-up.”
