Throughout the rise of UFC superstar Conor McGregor, fight fans have heard the term ‘money fight’ used more and more.

Now, with the term being commonplace in the MMA world, with more and more fighters calling for ‘money fights’, UFC President Dana White has had enough. The UFC President spoke to media members, as transcribed by MMAJunkie:

“I’m getting tired of the term ‘money fights,’” White said on Friday. “(They say), ‘I want the money fights. I want the money fights.’ What? are you all going to move down and fight Conor? Listen, there’s no bones about it: Conor is the guy. Conor brings in big gates, big pay-per-view numbers and everything else. Shut up if you don’t. If you’re not him, shut up.”

“Guys are talking about money fights, and I’m like, ‘You’re not a money fight,’” White said. “OK? You’re going to make whatever you’re going to make, and if you’re a good champion, your fight sells, and you’re going to do pay-per-views and be part of the pay-per-view. If you’re not that big pay-per-view star, shut up and fight.”

Recently, BJ Penn himself weighed-in on fighters calling for money fights, echoing a similar sentiment to UFC President Dana White as he stated:

“I’ll tell you this, I’m not the guy to go out there and say ‘oh give me this money fight, give me that money fight’,” Penn said. “I look at all these guys doing that and I’m like why don’t you go knock out a 100 guys and become the money fight yourself? ‘Oh I want to fight this money fight, this money fight’ — why don’t you make yourself the money fight? How’s about that one? Let’s just start there.”

“That’s the only way to do it.”
