UFC President Dana White has stated on numerous occasions that Cris Cyborg will not fight in the UFC because journalists would have a “field day” at the UFC’s expense if she were to fail a drug test.
However, with that being said, White also stated that we would never see women competing in the sport, and last Saturday at UFC 196, a women’s bantamweight title fight headlined the event as Miesha Tate won the title by submitting Holly Holm.
On May 14th at UFC 198, the UFC will head to Cyborg’s hometown of Curitiba Brazil. The Invicta FC champ spoke to Yahoo! Sports to make her case.
“I would love for the UFC to bring in my division. If you look at the top 12 girls ranked at bantamweight (in the UFC), seven of them have fought higher than 135. But I do not think the UFC has to introduce the division to let me fight in their promotion. They have a great relationship with Invicta and I’m sure (president Shannon Knapp) would let me defend my title in Brazil.”
