REPORT | Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez title fight nearly finalized

Conor McGregor

According to a report from @TalkMMA, the UFC is close to finalizing a deal that would see current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor challenge current UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for the 155-pound title at this November’s highly anticipated UFC 205 event in New York.

The lone hurdle in negotiations apparently does not surround money, but rather Conor McGregor’s desire to hold on to his UFC featherweight title.

The brash Irish superstar wants to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts simultaneously.

“Mystic Mac” is coming off a majority decision victory over Nate Diaz, which he scored in the headlining bout of UFC 202 in Las Vegas.

McGregor has gone 8-1 in his UFC career, scoring finishes in six of those eight victories.

Meanwhile, Eddie Alvarez captured the UFC lightweight title this past July when he scored a first-round knockout victory over former title holder Rafael dos Anjos. The title capturing win marked Eddie’s third-straight octagon victory, as he had previously defeated top contenders Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez respectively.

If the title fight between McGregor and Alvarez does come to fruition, Conor will look to become the third two-division champion in UFC history, following in the footsteps of UFC legends BJ Penn and Randy Couture.

Who do you think will emerge victorious if McGregor and Alvarez throw down at UFC 205 in New York? Sound off PENN Nation!
