UFC star Conor McGregor made history at Madison Square Garden at UFC 205 when he finished Eddie Alvarez by TKO to become the first fighter in the UFC to hold two weight division’s titles simultaneously.

The biggest thing that fans of Conor McGregor are waiting on is what fight comes next for the Irish superstar.

On Monday, McGregor’s long-time coach John Kavanagh gave his personal opinion on The MMA Hour of who he thinks deserves the next shot at “The Notorious.” Host Ariel Helwani had mentioned that for the lightweight title race, many were looking at either Tony Ferguson or Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Now, I’m going to give you my fall opinion,” Kavanagh told Ariel Helwani. “I think the second best 145er is Max Holloway, in my opinion. And I think the second best 155er is Nate Diaz. That’s my opinion.”

“I think Nate would beat either Tony or Khabib,” Kavanagh stated. “I think he really turned a corner with the Michael Johnson fight. I think we saw a new version of him. I think he looked fantastic in both Conor’s fights.”

Kavanagh says that if he had the power to be the matchmaker, the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz for the UFC lightweight title would be the one he would create. However, Kavanagh went on to reiterate that it was simply his opinion of it all.

“That’s my opinion. My small, uninportant opinion. No need to tweet me your own opinions,” Kavanagh stated. “But that’s who I think the two best guys are.

“Now, I understand Khabib is the number one contender and it’s probably gonna be him if that’s how the company works but for me, interest wise, the Nate fight would interest me greater because of that. If it’s Tony, if it’s Khabib, great. They are two fantastic fighters.”
