With making history by becoming the first concurrent champion of two UFC weight divisions, the world is waiting to hear what will be next for Conor McGregor.
With holding the championship belts for the 145-pound UFC featherweight division and the 155-pound UFC lightweight division, contenders in both weight classes are eagerly waiting to get their shot at the title.
However, UFC President Dana White told the LA Times that “The Notorious” won’t be stepping back in the Octagon to defend any belt in the near future.
“He won’t fight before May,” White said of the current two-weight UFC champion. “His girl [Dee Devlin] gets super stressed out when he fights. He doesn’t want her having any of that stress while she’s pregnant. He’s good. He should take time off. He’s been fighting nonstop. Nothing wrong with him taking time off. It’s good for him and her and it’s good for the baby.”
With McGregor on the sidelines for at least the next half year, White says that he isn’t worried about future UFC events with having “The Notorious” taking a break.
“We’ve done this for 16 years, with a lot of big stars who couldn’t fight or moved on – Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre,” White said. “There’s not a day in this office I don’t get the question, ‘What are we going to do about this guy?’ Every day I turn around, I’ve got a reporter saying we’ve peaked.
“If I listened to any of that … , we probably would be done.
White did mention that along with the new owners of the UFC, they are just at the start of something new.
“But I can tell you, we’re just getting started. Ari is a bright, fresh-eyed guy who’s just getting into this business, and he’s in love with it.”
