Conor McGregor says he was happy to see Jose Aldo bounce back and win against Frankie Edgar

UFC interim featherweight title belt

Although Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo’s time in the Octagon together was just 13 seconds, the two have spent much more time building up their rivalry. Their initial bout set for UFC 189 had to be rescheduled to UFC 194 after Aldo suffered an injury in training, which brought them more media time together.

With Aldo now the UFC interim featherweight champion, McGregor was asked if he will be returning to the featherweight division for another fight with Aldo following this match with Diaz.

“You know I haven’t really spoken to anyone about what’s next, who knows what’s next,” said McGregor. “Right now we’re 15 days away from a war and I’m ready for a war. That’s all I’m thinking of now. Let’s have this war. He’s been talking about, ‘full camp’ this, ‘I only had 10 days to prepare. If I didn’t have a full camp he wouldn’t have hit me.’ Let’s see what that’s about, you know, let’s see what that’s about. I’m looking forward to going in there and having a fight with this man, so f–k everything else.

“To see Aldo come back and win that fight against Frankie, I was happy for Aldo. When you see a longtime champion get knocked out like that the way I knocked him out, I felt sorry for him a little bit. And then on top of that Frankie and his team, they were all talking sh-t, that fat coach, the whole team was talking a lot. He’s still talking sh-t,” said McGregor.

“I was scheduled to fight Aldo many times. We had like a two-year media run, man I spent so much time with that man then he pulled out (of UFC 189) and we finally got into it and it took me one shot to the crown to shut his lights out.

“So I don’t know what I’m thinking,” said McGregor of his next fight plans. “Right now I’m preparing for a war and that’s it. 15 days, let’s f—ing bring it.”
