For months now, there have been lingering rumors as to whether or not the the Fertitta brothers were looking to sell the UFC. While initial reports stated that the UFC brass was extremely close to working out a deal, there have been conflicting reports since then as to whether or not the promotion will be sold.

In the event that the promotion is sold, UFC featherweight champion could seek equity in the company.

SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh spoke to Business Post:

“What will happen when it is sold, if it is sold? Short answer is, I don’t know what will happen the daily operations of it . . . it is a truly global company now. Like any big takeover, there will be a period of finding your feet again.”

In reagards to McGregor seeking equity, Kavanagh said:

“Conor will have thought of this and I am sure, when he is sitting down with his new overlords, he will have that conversation.”

Given that McGregor is the biggest PPV draw in the UFC, he could look to play hardball with the new owners in order to get equity in the company, refusing to fight during what will be a very critical time in the promotion.
