Conor McGregor: I’m ready for Floyd Mayweather

Conor McGregor Floyd Mayweather

Following Conor McGregor’s UFC 196 loss to Nate Diaz back in March, rumors began flying that when McGregor returned to competition, he would be having a boxing match with famed prizefighter Floyd Mayweather.

While the fight started out as just hypothetical discussions, things quickly became more serious when both McGregor and Mayweather verbally agreed to a fight. That was followed up by a report that pinned the date of the pair’s boxing match at the end of September. Ultimately however, McGregor signed to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 202 back in August, where he ultimately ended up avenging his UFC 196 submission loss to Diaz.

While Mayweather recently stated that the opportunity for the pair to step inside the ring for a boxing match has passed, the undefeated prizefighter spoke about the situation in a recent interview, saying:

“What a lot of people don’t know is, within my company I’m the boss. I call the shots. I think the fight is very difficult to make because I tried to make it before. It didn’t happen, but you live and you learn.”

In addition, McGregor stated earlier this week at the UFC 205 press conference that after he beats Eddie Alvarez, he might have to move to boxing for a fight with Floyd Mayweather.

Now, in a new interview with TMZ, when McGregor was asked about the possibility of fighting Mayweather, he simply stated:

“I told you. I’m ready for that fight.”

McGregor of course is currently slated to fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 205 on November 12th. While UFC President Dana White repeatedly stated that McGregor would be forced to vacate his featherweight title if he didn’t go down & defend the belt after his UFC 202 fight with Nate Diaz.

Despite that, the UFC agreed to let McGregor hold onto his title for the Alvarez fight, only forcing him to vacate one of the belts if he emerges from his scrap at the Madison Square Garden victorious. With that being said, McGregor has remained adamant that it will take “an army” for the UFC to take one of his belts away from him.
