Conor McGregor declares only one opponent has landed a heavy punch on him in competition

Conor McGregor

What kind of mark will Conor McGregor leave on the world when he decides to hang up the gloves?

The current UFC lightweight champion has already brought a lot to the world of combat sports and according to him, he is still a fresh fighter that has a lot left to put out in competition.

“I’m 29 years of age and I have climbed to the very, very, very top and with…not with relative ease…I’ve put in a lot of hard work,” McGregor told Ryan Tubridy on RTE’s The Late Late Show (transcribed by Peter Carroll for MMA Fighting).

“The Notorious” added that people don’t see the real work, training, and sparring that take place in every fight camp leading up to a competition. However, McGregor stated that after every fight camp, “compared to other people in the fight game – I’m still relatively undamaged.”

“I’ve never been dropped. I was wobbled once. In the Mayweather fight, it was fatigue – I wasn’t wobbled, I didn’t see stars once.

“The only time I was ever wobbled once in a contest was in the Diaz 1 fight. And that’s it…it’s the only heavy shot I’ve ever taken.

“I’ve continued to climb and I’m still very young in the game. Although I’ve climbed to the top, I’m still very young from a damage-taking standpoint, so I will continue to see where it goes.”

McGregor went on to say that he holds “multiple titles in the UFC” and that “multiple contenders” are clawing to get to him. With all the contenders that are after him, the Irish superstar said he certainly will be competing for the “next couple of years.”

When asked again about some sort of timeline for his career, “The Notorious” stated that it all comes down to his own well being.

“I could cut it off yesterday, you know what I mean? I don’t really have a date and a time and an age because I use it from a damage-taking standpoint.

“How many blows have I taken? That’s the true danger in combat sport.”
