Newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is set to take on former teammate and former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw as the two are coaching the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The two have had a long history together as they were both on Team Alpha Male. However, an issue with coaching disputes led Dillashaw to split from Team Alpha Male in Northern California and train full time with Duane “Bang” Ludwig with the Elevation Fight Team in Colorado.
The two former teammates have begun filming for The Ultimate Fighter: “Redemption” as Team Garbrandt takes on Team Dillashaw in the UFC reality televesion series competition.
The two have traded barbs on social media and it surely won’t slow down anytime soon. Garbrandt took to Instagram on Thursday to shove his success with Team Alpha Male in Dillashaw’s face.
Garbrandt posted a photo of him beating then-champion Dominick Cruz in their UFC 207 title fight split with a photo of Dillashaw losing to Cruz in their UFC Fight Night 81 title fight that had “TRAINING WITH TAM VS TRAINING WITHOUT TAM” edited on the photo.
Garbrandt put on an amazing performance against Cruz to take a unanimous decision victory claiming the belt as the new champion and will surely look to repeat his success when he steps into the Octagon to face Dillashaw. However, there is still an entire season of The Ultimate Fighter and surely a whole lot more trash talk that we get to enjoy before their fight takes place.
Will their training history show in their fight as they have a good grasp on each other’s strengths and weaknesses? Or have both fighters evolved so much since their time as teammates that this will be entirely new matchup for each of them? Give us your prediction in the comment section on how and when the fight ends between the champion Cody Garbrandt and former champion TJ Dillashaw!
