Yoel Romero may have gotten off of his USADA suspension, but Chris Weidman isn’t believing his claim of taking tainted supplements.
Weidman discussed Romero’s claim of tainted supplements causing a positive drug test on Monday’s edition of the MMA Hour, where the former middleweight champ went off on what he described as a well-worn excuse.
“Once you have PEDs in your system, and now you’re talking about taking tainted supplements, which I’m not sold on, everyone uses that excuse. Let me find a supplement at GMC that USADA won’t think is a big deal, I’m really not so sure these tainted supplements are out there.”
“GMC protein powder and testosterone boosters won’t make you fail a drug test. Now everyone is afraid of taking supplements out of fear of failing a drug test.”
“I don’t like when people take steroids and cheat, making excuses so people feel bad for you. I just don’t buy it. I was in this sport pre-USADA, I was fighting guys on steroids and now you’re starting to see them get caught.”
The former 185 pound champion is set to face Yoel Romero at the UFC’s inaugural event in New York at the famed Madison Square Garden. The Long Island native is sure to be the hometown favorite, which is a moment Weidman has been waiting for his entire MMA career.
“This is the biggest fight of my life,” Weidman said. “I’m fighting at Madison Square Garden. If I do my thing out there like I know I should, I’ll most likely get a title shot and be back on track.”
Who do you have winning between Romero and Weidman? Will the former champ get back on track with a win, or will Romero continue his undefeated streak en-route to a title shot of his own? Sound off, PENN Nation!
