Current Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi put his title on the line in the headliner of tonight’s Bellator 206 event against reigning welterweight champion Rory MacDonald.
Rory MacDonald was most recently seen in action at Bellator 192 where he defeated Douglas Lima via decision to become the promotions welterweight champion.
Meanwhile, Gegard Mousasi enters tonight’s contest on a seven-fight win streak, his latest being a first-round TKO victory over Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 200 to capture the promotions 185-pound title.
Round one begins and Mousasi quickly takes the center of cage. MacDonald leaps in with a combination that falls short. Mousasi lands a nice inside low kick. Rory respond with a crisp jab. Another low kick from Mousasi followed by a straight right hand that lands flush. MacDonald circles off the cage and attempts to take the center of the octagon. Mousasi lands a nice jab but misses with a follow up low kick. MacDonald side steps and then fires off a low kick of his own. Mousasi smiles and responds with a thudding low kick. MacDonald steps forward with a right hand that lands flush. Mousasi appears to be ok and fires off a pair of snapping jabs. Gegard is walking Rory down now. He lands a left hook and then a kick to the body. Rory attempts a high kick that is partially blocked. Mousasi lands a straight right hand up the middle. He lands a front kick to the body of MacDonald. Rory eats another jab and then attempts to shoot for a takedown but it is not there. Mousasi continues to use pressure and batter Rory with his jab. Rory appears to be ok but is struggling to find his offense. Gegard Mousasi with a right hand. Rory lands a front kick to the body. The horn sounds to end round one.
Round two begins and Mousasi immediately goes back to his jab that was so effective in round one. Rory circles and then shoots in for a takedown. Gegard denies the shot and winds up in top position. He quickly begins to rain down punches from the top. MacDonald scrambles and attempts to wrap Gegard up. Mousasi gets loose and drops down a huge elbow. MacDonald begins to bleed almost instantly from that strike. Gegard Mousasi smells blood and begins to drop down some heavy ground and pound. He advances to half guard and then to full mount. Gegard Mousasi with some savage elbows now. This one is close to being over. The referee sees another big elbow land and that is it. This fight is over. Gegard Mousasi with an impressive stoppage win.
